Finished: Acorns Cardigan!

Pattern: Acorns by Carol Sunday, from the Fall 2010 Twist Collective (Rav pattern page)

Yarn: The Plucky Knitter superwash merino, in the Honey Wilkes colorway

Needles: size 4 and 5 US circulars

Mods and Notes: Oh gosh. I do really like this sweater but there are definitely things I wish I’d done differently. Namely, I would have knit it at a size up from the smallest size. When I button all the buttons, it gaps pretty noticeably. I’ll probably wear it the way I did in the photos, with only the top few buttons done up.

I  love the details; the acorn-patterned yoke, of course, and the little acorns running around the hem and sleeve edging.

Let me just say a note about the yarn – oh, the yarn, lovely lovely yarn! The color is amazing – it almost glows. The merino is super soft, and was a pleasure to knit with. One of those projects you almost don’t want to finish because you don’t want to stop playing with the yarn! Luckily for me, I have a couple more skeins left…enough for a hat and fingerless mitts combo, possibly?

It’s been clear for a while that I’m not going to make my 12 sweaters in 2010 goal. Honestly, that doesn’t really bother me at all. I feel like I’ve stayed on track really well with my sweater knitting, and just having that goal in mind has pushed me to complete more sweaters than I otherwise would!

  1. wow, what a beautiful sweater, you must be so pleased! absolutely love the design the yoke, the sleeves and even the hem are such nice details and a great colour.

  2. I agree with Lina above: I love everything about this sweater. It looks fabulous on you. You do beautiful work. (I also love the name of the yarn colour too – Honey Wilkes was Ashley Wilkes’ sister in Gone With the Wind and was supposed to marry the doofus Charles Hamilton until Scarlett O’Hara stole him from her. Oh Ashley!)

    • Thanks for the kind words! I am a big Gone with the Wind fan, both the book and movie, so the name of the yarn really appealed to me! And I agree, Charles was such a doofus. : ) Honey was also a bit of a doofus, bless her heart. They would have made a good couple, I think, if Scarlett hadn’t interfered!

  3. I hadn’t realized that most of the body was purled! Uh-oh… Yours looks great, though, I love the colour and it works really well with just those three buttons closed.
