We took advantage of the pretty weather this weekend to do a little bit of hiking. There’s a state park about 20 minutes away, William B. Umstead State Park, but we’d never checked it out before. It turned out to be a very nice spot for a short Sunday hike (despite the crazy persistent mosquitoes!)
On our 3 mile hike to Big Lake and back, we saw a ton of mushrooms, which my husband was really good at spotting.
The trails were also chock full of rocks that I’m guessing were maybe quartz of some sort, but I never took geology, so who knows. It doesn’t show in this photo at all, but they were sparkly. Pretty!
All in all, a pleasant way to spend a June afternoon.
