Chocolate mousse.

My husband’s family is big on tradition. Each holiday, each annual event has an assigned treat, and the day is not the same without it.

Valentine’s Day must have chocolate mousse.

Chocolate Mousse

Blender Chocolate Mousse

1/3 cup hot coffee
1 6 ounce package of semisweet chocolate chips (Ghiradelli reins supreme in our household)
4 eggs, separated
1 tbsp creme de cacao
whipped cream

Combine coffee and chocolate in blender; process until smooth (the chocolate will start to melt a bit). Add egg yolks and creme de cacao. Process 1 minute.

Beat egg whites (at room temp) until stiff peaks form. Fold in chocolate mixture.

Spoon into stemmed wine glasses or ramekins; chill until set. Top with whipped cream and chocolate sauce (if desired) and enjoy. Serves 4.

Much love to my mother-in-law for the recipe. We made it for the first time by ourselves this year, and it just wasn’t as good as hers. Something just wasn’t the same. Isn’t that the way, though? I will never make a pie as good as my granny’s.

And now I want some pie.
